The truth behind the number.
Will coronavirus introduce the mark of the beast? That has become a common question in some circles.
The idea is that, soon, lockdowns around the world will be lifted—but only for those immune to the coronavirus. You will have to be tested to see if you’ve had the disease or be given a vaccine. Once that’s happened, you’ll be issued a certificate, identity card or tattoo. To travel and work freely, you’ll have to show this proof that you’re not infectious. In this way, millions will be tricked into receiving some kind of mark. Could this be the “mark of the beast”?
It’s a critical question. The Bible promises terrible curses for those who receive the mark of the beast. Revelation 14:9-10 warn, “If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation ….” So, what is this mark?
We don’t have to guess. The Bible tells us exactly what the mark is. But we must be willing to look “here a little and there a little,” considering all the relevant scriptures.
Consider the idea that the mark is something brand new—to be unveiled in the near future. Is that true?
Revelation 20:4 describes John seeing in a vision all those who have been killed for Christ. He wrote: “And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands ….”
Note, John saw all martyred Christians. Many were killed hundreds of years ago. Yet some of these Christians also refused the mark of the beast in their day. That tells you that the mark is not a new invention. True Christians are not generally being put to death right now, so those who reject this mark are not being executed right now. But ancient Christians who rejected the mark were killed—and it will soon be enforced again.
The Bible also makes clear that this mark revolves around obedience to God and His law. The same passage in Revelation 14 that warns of the dire curses for those who accept the mark, tells us what is different about those that who refuse it. They “keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus” (verse 12). Other scriptures state that the wrath of God falls on those who disobey (Ephesians 5:6; Colossians 3:5-6). Those who reject the mark, and thus are targeted by the beast, are those who “keep the commandments of God” (Revelation 12:17).
This mark revolves directly around the question of whether you will accept or reject God’s commandments.
Does this mean that we should ignore the heavy-handed response to coronavirus? Certainly not.
Coronavirus has led to a massive intrusion into people’s personal lives. Governments are increasingly dictating where people go, where they live, and how they worship. Neighbors are being encouraged to snitch on neighbors. The kind of phone tracking and surveillance systems being discussed and even rolled out are exactly what would be needed to enforce the mark of the beast.
Those worried about this surveillance and increased government powers are right—there is a real danger. But the mark of the beast is not some kind of certificate of immunity.
In fact, many of those warning that coronavirus will lead to the mark of the beast are themselves accepting the mark of the beast right now.
The mark revolves around which day you worship God.
Do you obey God’s command to remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy? For hundreds of years, true Christians have been put to death for keeping Saturday and not Sunday.
It is the test commandment. Who will you obey—the Bible or man? Will you keep the day Jesus Christ kept (Mark 1:15, 38-39; Luke 4:16), the day that the first-century Church kept (Acts 13:14-15, 42-44; 16:12-15; 17:2), or will you follow the churches and governments of today?
That’s a very different view of the mark from the one held by most Christians. The mark of the beast is either ignored completely or described as some kind of secret tattoo or symbol. But you can prove that the mark of the beast revolves around the Sabbath day.
Herbert W. Armstrong proved this thoroughly in his free booklet Who or What Is the Prophetic Beast? Part 2 of the booklet deals with this subject specifically. It’s a short section—barely longer than some Trumpet articles. I urge you to read it for yourself. The punishments for accepting the mark of the beast are dire. You need to prove exactly what it is for yourself.

Why the Bar Code Will Always Be the Mark of the Beast
Joe Woodland invented the bar code – that collection of lines and numbers used to ring up your groceries every time you visit the supermarket – and after the longtime IBMer passed away earlier this month at the age of 91, the response from certain parts of the web was all too predictable.
"It's the mark of the beast!" wrote one regular Wired commenter in response to our Joe Woodland tribute, pointing readers to the 16th verse of the 13th chapter of the Book of Revelation. Revelation is the final book of the Bible's New Testament, and among other things, it foretells an apocalypse in which a beast will rise from the earth, rain fire from the heavens, and lay his mark on all of humankind – a mark used to buy and sell.
"He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name," reads the 13th chapter. "Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666."
Presumably, that commenter was having a bit of fun – he calls himself "Full Metal Pizza" and his tagline is "Soylent Green is STILL made out of people!!!" – but ever since Woodland and his IBM colleagues introduced the Universal Product Code, they've been chased by claims that it's a step toward the apocalypse – and not all these claims were made in jest.
When the first UPC scanners arrived in the early 1970s, according to various IBMers who worked on the project, there were protests at grocery stores – even though the codes appeared on Coke cans and jars of applesauce, not right hands and foreheads. And in the years that followed, an urban legend arose, warning gullible types that the number 666 was hidden in each bar code. George Laurer – who designed the bar code as we know it today, expanding on Woodland's original idea – once received a letter via registered mail from someone who claimed to be Satan and asked Laurer how it felt to have carried out his orders.

Laurer – who has clearly tired of answering questions about the UPC and its supposed connection to the Book of Revelation – calls all this "ludicrous." But it's also rather amusing. Laurer has long told UPC watchers that the three longer "guide bars" in each code – one at the front, one in the middle, and one at the end – do not represent 6's, hoping to put that urban legend to rest. But you can't squash human nature. If someone wants to find proof that the apocalypse is upon us, they will find it.
When Joe Woodland dreamed up the bar code in the late 1940s, it looked like a bull's-eye – a series of concentric circles. But although Woodland went to work for IBM in the early '50s and helped Big Blue push the UPC into the market, he sold his original bull's eye patent to another company, and the code IBM settled on looked more like a rectangle – a series of short, parallel lines.
This code was designed by Laurer, and it's what you see on your groceries today. Basically, an optical scanner reads the distance between the edge of each line, and these distances correspond to numbers that can then be used to identify a product.
Laurer first realized the code could be construed as some sort of apocalyptic signpost while it was still under development in the early 1970s. His daughter happened to be studying the Book of Revelation, and he couldn't help but notice that the code harbored a few 6's – though not the 6's alleged by the urban legend that's still bouncing around the internet.
According to Laurer, the numerical values for each pattern of lines and spaces were assigned "almost arbitrarily" by the project's mathematician, David Savir, and this included a default value – or error value – that was used when the scanner had trouble reading a code. If the scanner read any two bars followed by an infinitely long space, it returned the number 6.
Ah, but those weren't the only the 6's.
In those days, IBM didn't really name its products as much as it numbered them. IBM's UPC scanning system – which included the scanners themselves, terminals, a kind of local area network, and a controller – was called the 3660. But the individual scanners were also tagged with their own number: 3666.
Bill Selmeier – an IBM executive who worked alongside Laurer and Woodland on the project inside the IBM Store Systems group in Raleigh, North Carolina – doesn't remember anyone in the group discussing the possibility of people protesting the scanners while they were still under development, but protest they did. When Selmeier showed up at a Ralph's grocery store in Los Angeles to see one of the first scanning systems in action, dressed in his pin-stripe suit and wing tips, a man approached and told him the code was the sign of the beast.
"I had no idea what he was talking about," Selmeier remembers. "But then I went back to hotel room and opened ... Gideon's Bible."
Contemporary news stories discussed the parallels with the Book of Revelation – and the complaints. The complaints were myriad – and they didn't always involve 6's. According to Laurer, early test films of the scanners were labeled with the letters F, G and H, and some saw this as proof that the code would wind up on more than just Coke cans, insisting the H stood for head and the F for forearm.
"All of this is pure bunk," says Laurer, "and is no more important than the fact that my first, middle, and last name all have 6 letters."
Of course, some people may find extreme importance in the number of letters that make up his name. That's just how people are.

Mark of the Beast

Will you accept the mark of the beast? Without it, you won’t be able to buy or sell. With it, you’ll suffer the plagues of Revelation. What should you do?
There has been much speculation about the mark of the beast mentioned in Revelation. What do you need to know about this mysterious mark?
It seems that no subject has intrigued and baffled people more than this mysterious mark spoken of in the book of Revelation. Many books have been written and many sermons have been preached about this subject. Scholars and theologians have offered many different ideas about it.
Some suggest it is a microchip implanted in one’s forehead or an invisible mark or a visible mark. Some even think it could be one’s credit card or debit card.
But what does the Bible reveal about this puzzling mark?
The key passage reads: “He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name” (Revelation 13:16-17). Verse 18 identifies the related “number of the beast” as 666, which is covered in our article “666: The Number of the Beast.”
If one does not have one of these identifying signs, he or she will not be able to legally transact business. This person will find it difficult to earn a living, to hold a job or to run a business.
What or who is the beast of Revelation?
John, the one God chose to write down the book of Revelation, saw a vision of the future. Here is what he wrote concerning this beast:
“Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority” (Revelation 13:1).
To understand what of who this beast in the book of Revelation is, we need to begin in Daniel 7:1-8, where we find the imagery of four animals, representing the four great historical empires. These were a lion (Babylon), a bear (Persia), a leopard (Greece) and a fourth beast (Rome).
It is this fourth beast described by Daniel and recorded by John that would have “ten horns” and receive a “deadly wound” before rising again before the end of this age (Daniel 7:7-8; Revelation 13:3). This empire is the “beast” of the book of Revelation.

The mark of the beast is the mark or identifying sign of this empire.

A second beast causes people to receive the mark of the beast
Let’s now turn our attention to the word “he” in Revelation 13:16. The passage says, “He causes all … to receive a mark.” Who is “he”? Verse 11 says, “Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon.”
These characteristics indicate a false religious leader who “causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast” (verse 12). This second beast is called the “false prophet” (Revelation 19:20). This mark or sign represents a final revival of the Roman Empire at the time of the end. The religious leader that supports the beast “causes” people to accept it.
The mark of the beast represents disobedience to God
The mark of the beast will separate people into two groups. One group will accept the mark and the other group will reject it.
The apostle John writes, “Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, ‘If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb’” (Revelation 14:9-10).
This shows great suffering will come on those who receive this mark of the beast.
In verse 12 we see the group of people who do not receive this mark. “Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.” This is speaking of the saints of God—all those who are obedient and faithful followers of Jesus Christ.
Throughout the Bible obeying God is a mark or sign of those who are God’s.
For example, in instructing the ancient Israelites how to observe His annual festival the Days of Unleavened Bread, God said this act of obedience to His law would “be as a sign to you on your hand” (Exodus 13:9). The apostle Paul reinforced this in telling the Christians in Corinth to continue to “keep the feast … with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth” (1 Corinthians 5:8).
The mark of the beast thus represents disobedience to God’s commandments and rejection of the faith of Jesus.
The book of Revelation says that those who receive the mark will be subject to the seven last plagues, while the obedient saints are described as having attained “victory over the beast” (Revelation 15:2). These faithful people will be given eternal life and reign with Christ at His second coming (Revelation 20:4).
What is the mark of the beast?
As we’ve already seen, this specific sign determines who may officially transact business. One who has this identifying sign will be able to “buy and sell.” The Bible clearly explains the financial repercussions that will come based upon whether one has this mark or not.
We also note that there is one commandment of God that is often closely connected to one’s ability to do business and that identifies God’s people. Of God’s 10 Commandments, the Fourth Commandment is the one most likely to affect one’s ability to work, earn a living and do business.
The command says, “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God” (Exodus 20:8-10).
Most people think it does not make any difference what day one observes, but it does to God. In this age, it takes the “faith of Jesus” to avoid working on the Sabbath and to keep it holy. (For more on this subject, read our articles on the Sabbath.)
What is a mark in the Bible?
The Greek word charagma in Revelation 14:9 means “a scratch or etching, that is, stamp (as a badge of servitude)” (Strong’s Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries). A mark is thus a brand or sign of identification.
The Sabbath is called a “sign” between God and His people in the Bible (Exodus 31:13, 17; Ezekiel 20:12). It identifies God’s people as being sanctified or set apart by God.
Jesus said, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath” (Mark 2:27-28). The Sabbath today is still a commandment and an identifying sign of God’s people.
Another occasion of marking or identifying people is found in the book of Ezekiel where God tells the prophet, “Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and cry over all the abominations that are done within it” (Ezekiel 9:4). This mark identified those who obeyed God and mourned over the sins of the city.
The location of the mark of the beast
The account in Revelation says those who receive the mark of the beast will receive it “on their right hand or on their foreheads” (Revelation 13:16). Many people think it will be some kind of physical mark in or on one’s skin, and this certainly could be.
Yet because the book of Revelation employs many symbols, we must also consider the possibility that these references to the “right hand” and “forehead” are symbolic. If so, what do they mean?
"If we hold to and practice the faith of Jesus and keep the commandments of God, we can reject the mark of the beast."In the Bible, the right hand can represent our actions, works and labor. The forehead can symbolize the inner beliefs, the intellect and what is in the mind. The mark of the beast is thus related to what we believe in our mind and what we do with our hands.
Compare this with Deuteronomy 6:8, where God commanded ancient Israel to bind the commandments “as a sign on your hand, and … as frontlets between your eyes.”
The connection between our thoughts and our actions is a good explanation of faith. In the Bible the real “faith of Jesus” has two parts, belief and acting in faith on those beliefs. (See more about this in our article “How to Grow in Faith.”)
How to avoid the mark of the beast
The Bible says the mark of the beast will be forced on an unsuspecting world before the return of Jesus Christ. This world will not realize it is following the teachings of a false religious system.
But God gives those who read the Bible and believe the Scriptures a clear choice. If we hold to and practice the faith of Jesus and keep the commandments of God, we can reject the mark of the beast. Choosing to obey God will have consequences for those who reject the mark of the beast. But this is the choice we must make in order to please God and to receive eternal life in the family of God.

One of the most important effects of the coronavirus crisis is taking place on the continent of Europe. It is hastening the fulfillment of one of the most crucial end-time prophecies of your Bible!
The coronavirus is hastening the arrival of the prophesied European Holy Roman Empire.
The Bible says 10 kings will rise in Europe in this end time. These kings will form the Holy Roman Empire and be led by one overarching strongman. The coronavirus pandemic is helping usher in these 10 kings.
We need to be thinking about these prophesied kings, who are rising now. The European Union is about to be pared down to a 10-nation superstate. That prophecy will be fulfilled soon—perhaps this year, but in no more than two to four years. I can prove that to you from the Bible.
For over 75 years we have been prophesying the arrival of this empire. Now you can see it coming to pass exactly as God recorded for us in the Bible. I have been a part of this work for many years. And it is amazing to me, almost overwhelming, how minutely these prophecies have been and are being fulfilled.
This coming empire will affect your life directly. Its arrival will shock every nation on Earth as no power has in modern times. This is the paramount prophecy of the end time.
Ten Kings
Herbert W. Armstrong consistently taught that the nations of Europe are going to cry out for political unity. That is what we see happening today. Europe is weak and divided. The coronavirus is only further weakening the Continent. The German people in particular cannot live with the current circumstances. History shows that they are going to act.
Italy has been the epicenter for the coronavirus in Europe. Its economy has taken a massive hit. “The economy has basically been stopped,” Prof. Nikola Boree told the U.S. Times on March 17. “We are probably going to see massive defaults, clearly. Italian banks will be badly hit.” Spain and France are also suffering serious debt issues. Events in Italy give us insight into what could happen to all the economies of the European Union.
Here are some telling headlines from prominent news sources. “Coronavirus Could Break the EU” (Politico). “With Borders Going Up Around Europe, Coronavirus Is Devastating the EU” (Telegraph). “Coronavirus Tests Europe’s Cohesion, Alliances and Even Democracy” (New York Times). EU nations are very divided. That division is preventing them from pooling their efforts to deal with the virus.
How will they eventually come together? They will unite under the leadership of 10 kings. And as the Bible says, they are all going to give their mind, politically and even spiritually, to the head of the Holy Roman Empire.
Mr. Armstrong always taught that Revelation 17:10 is end-time prophecy in a nutshell: “And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.” When Mr. Armstrong was on the scene, the “one is”—Adolf Hitler—was leading the sixth resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire. Today, the “other,” prophesied to continue a “short space,” is soon to arrive.
The prophecy continues: “And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast” (verses 12-13). This beast will have power for 3½ years—the duration of the Great Tribulation and Day of the Lord. Ten kings, who have one mind, will give their power to this beast.
The founders of the European project knew that creating the euro—a unified European currency—without all the other aspects of a unified government would provoke economic crisis. Yet they still deliberately proceeded with their plan. This was exposed by former European bureaucrat Bernard Connolly. “The purpose of the crisis will be, as [Romano] Prodi, then Commission president, said in 2002, ‘To allow the EU to take more power for itself,’” Connolly wrote. In other words, they planned this superpower! They were hoping to bring in more power to rule this Holy Roman Empire.
That is exactly what we have seen with the other six prophesied heads of the Holy Roman Empire.
One Strongman
Popular satisfaction with democracy is at an all-time low, Cambridge’s Department of Politics noted in January. Europeans increasingly believe democracy is unable to solve their problems. They are questioning its ability to create greater unity. And nations are increasingly taking extreme measures to deal with these grave virus problems and dangers. In fact, more and more of them are looking for a strongman.
“Austria has massively restricted civil liberties due to coronavirus,” Zeit Online wrote. “This is understandable in this situation, but it is also dangerous.” It is very dangerous when you consider Europe’s history. There is a painful history of strong leaders restricting freedoms to realize their ambitions.
Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has said that the Catholic Church guides his politics. If you understand history, you will find that quite troubling. That is exactly what the Holy Roman Empire is: an authoritarian state-church combine. The final and most deadly resurrection of this empire is building before our eyes.
Some of Europe’s leaders, such as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, are becoming autocrats and dictators in the face of this crisis. On March 30, the Hungarian parliament gave Orbán dictatorial powers. It is almost certain that Hungary will be a part of the coming 10-nation European superpower.
The coronavirus is causing more and more people in Europe to talk about the need for a strongman. Zeit Online further wrote that “the longing for the proverbial strongman who will finally take action will grow stronger.” There is a lack of leadership to effectively deal with the virus and subsequent economic issues. People want that leadership vacuum filled.
The empire is yearning for a strongman. Bible prophecy shows that European strongman is coming! Watch closely: You’re about to witness a dramatic shift of politics in Europe!
When we at the Trumpet see a news source talking about Europeans longing for a “strongman,” it really arrests our attention! We have been prophesying about this individual’s arrival for years—and now, news sources are talking about it more publicly than ever. You can know what to expect. If you know the Bible and understand it, then you will be moved and shaken by these stunning prophecies.
Here is how the Prophet Daniel describes this individual: “And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power, and he shall destroy wonderfully [mightily, it should read], and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people” (Daniel 8:23-24). This is what European news sources are talking about. This strongman will have a mind change because Satan is going to get to him (Habakkuk 1:11). He rules “not by his own power”—but by Satan’s power. Satan will use him as a tool to wreak tremendous destruction in this world!
Daniel wrote that this man will “destroy the mighty and holy people.” That is referring to 95 percent of God’s own people who turned away from God in the end time. God is going to plunge His rebellious people into the Great Tribulation if they don’t repent before that time. Of all people, they should know what is happening and obey God, but they’re not.
United in Crisis
Isaiah 10 tells us that this empire will most certainly be led by Assyria, which is biblically prophetic language for modern-day Germany. Most of the previous resurrections of the Holy Roman Empire have been led by Germany. The Germans are a great people in many ways, but they have also started two world wars, and your Bible says they will be responsible for starting a third!
Germany has already risen to unmatched power within Europe. From the beginning of the European unification project, Germany has worked to dominate and even domineer. If it had really repented of its sins of World War ii, in which 60 million people died, it would not be trying to domineer the Continent even today.
Britain left the European Union because it could see what was happening and would not submit to that. Bible prophecy also made clear that Britain would not be a part of the EU, which is why we were foretelling its exit for decades.
One of the EU founders, Jean Monnet, said, “Europe will be forged in crises and will be the sum of the solutions adopted for those crises.” German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble said, “Crisis represents an opportunity. Europe always moved forward in times of crisis. Sometimes you need a little pressure for certain decisions to be taken.” Europe is experiencing pressure right now with the coronavirus and economic issues. The more pressure it experiences, the more its people will cry out for a strongman to guide them and deal with this problem. In 1945, when Germany was still smoldering in ruins after World War ii, Herbert W. Armstrong said, “Europe, or Germany, is going to rise again, and so is the Holy Roman Empire.” The sixth resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire, led by Hitler, had just been defeated. But immediately after the war, when all the world said Germany would never rise again, Mr. Armstrong boldly prophesied that it would—and lead the most tyrannical and destructive resurrection by far!
In 1967, Mr. Armstrong said that once the population of Europe comes together, you would see a superpower that grew to become the greatest power on Earth. That power is facing us now.
Germany is the third-leading exporting nation in the world. It is an economic and political powerhouse. It has grown to a prominence that the Allies in World War ii pledged it would never have again. Even militarily, it has become extraordinarily powerful.
During the Cold War, the leading generals in Europe adamantly warned that rearming Germany to help fight off the Soviet Union was a calculated risk. But we decided to take that risk. The world is about to experience the terrifying results of rearming the German war machine.
When the Prophet Daniel saw visions of what this empire would do in the end time, he was so astonished that he fainted! Now, unless this world repents and heeds God’s warning, we are going to literally experience those events Daniel saw only in vision! We need to do some deep repenting, and quickly, because time is running out.
Prince of Peace
The coronavirus has created problems for Europe that have increased the pressure for unity. Right now, Europe is weak and divided—a condition that the German people, most of all, cannot live with. They are going to respond, you can be sure. People’s yearning for a “strongman who will finally take action” will grow stronger. And they will get their strongman. That man will hijack Europe and transform it into another iteration of the Holy Roman Empire, just as the six previous strongmen have done.
The details of these prophecies that we have been proclaiming for 75 years are now coming to pass. You can see even the twigs on the tree beginning to manifest themselves.
I hope that you will repent and heed God’s message, so God can help you and protect you through the terrible times that are coming upon this Earth.
But even in all of this terrible news, there is good news. Daniel 8:25 reads, “And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.” This powerful strongman will act like he wants peace when he really wants war. But he will make the terrible mistake of fighting against Jesus Christ Himself! Is that logical? This illustrates how evil that empire is! But at His return, Jesus Christ will destroy this man and the armies of the Holy Roman Empire.
This world knows so little about God and His prophecies. They simply don’t understand what is written in the Bible. But you can.
People must start looking to God and His Word. That is the only way we can have peace in this world. True peace is coming shortly—in just a very few years! We can be very thankful to God for that!

About 67 million Americans believe covid-19 is a ‘wake-up call’ from God.

As coronavirus spreads, local shutdown orders have closed churches across America. Yet shuttering churches has not caused people to lose interest in religion. Rather, coronavirus seems to be causing people to reconsider their relationship with God.
McLaughlin & Associates conducted a survey from March 23 to March 26 of 1,000 likely American voters. It showed that 5 percent of respondents believed coronavirus and the economic meltdown were signs of God’s “coming judgment.” Another 17 percent believed coronavirus was a “wake-up call for us to turn back to faith in God.” And another 22 percent believed the pandemic was both a sign of “coming judgment” and a “wake-up call.”
Altogether, 44 percent of Americans believe God is using the coronavirus to send a message.
Twenty-nine percent of poll respondents believed coronavirus and the economic meltdown were “signs that we are living in what the Bible calls the ‘last days.’” If these numbers are representative of America’s 153 million registered voters, then 44 million voters believe we are living in the last days, and 67 million believe God is using coronavirus to get our attention.
These beliefs are causing many to take action.
The survey indicated that 40 percent of Christians were listening to online sermons, searching for information about Bible prophecy, or reading their Bibles more often. The same held true for 22 percent of America’s “non-Christians.”
Other sources have confirmed this trend.
Pew Research data shows that 55 percent of Americans are praying for an end to the pandemic, including 86 percent of those who regularly pray daily and 15 percent of those who seldom pray. About 6 percent of agnostics polled admitted to praying to a God they were not sure existed to stop the virus. According to research from the University of Copenhagen, there has been a 40 percent spike in Google searches on prayer worldwide.
A Wall Street Journal op-ed titled “A Coronavirus Great Awakening?” noted: “Sometimes the most important ingredient for spiritual renewal is a cataclysmic event. … For societies founded on the biblical tradition, cataclysms need not mark the end. They are a call for repentance and revival. … Will Americans, shaken by the reality of a risky universe, rediscover the God who proclaimed Himself sovereign over every catastrophe?”
That is a good question that more people need to be asking.
The Bible reveals that God is using the coronavirus pandemic as a “wake-up call.” Trumpet managing editor Joel Hilliker wrote in “You Can Survive the Coronapocalypse,” “God wants to restore to humanity the awesome potential that Adam and Eve turned their backs on. He wants to convert the heart of every person in the world, to help us see our error in going the wrong way, and instill in us a love for His way. ‘The Lord is … not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance’ (2 Peter 3:9). That is His goal: to bring us to repentance.”
Repentance is different from what most people imagine. It is not a fleeting emotional feeling nor an academic acknowledgment that God is “sovereign over every catastrophe.” Repentance is comparing yourself to the goodness of God and then completely changing the direction of your life by striving to obey God’s law (Matthew 3:8; Romans 2:4).
America experienced a superficial “religious revival” after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on New York City. Churches, synagogues and other houses of worship were filled for a few weeks after the terrorist attacks. But people soon went back to their previous way of life after it seemed the danger had passed. That is not the kind of repentance God wants.
Most Christian leaders are not really encouraging people to repent. One religious adviser in the Trump administration said recently that God was not judging America today because “America is not, by and large, characterized by people who are unfaithful to God’s precepts. Conversely, there is only a small minority of individuals who are grossly disobedient to God.” Yet curses like coronavirus and the economic meltdown prove that there are far fewer truly obedient Americans than this religious adviser supposes. The Bible warns, “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall” (1 Corinthians 10:12).
The same Bible that prophesies of pandemics (Matthew 24:7), prophesies there will be a religious revival in end-time Israel before Jesus Christ returns. But it will include many false preachers.
The late Herbert W. Armstrong explained in The United States and Britain in Prophecy that Bible prophecies directed toward end-time Israel apply to the United States and Britain. And a prophecy in Amos 7 speaks of a time when the U.S. is ruled by a type of the ancient Israelite King Jeroboam ii. A religious movement referred to as “sanctuaries of Israel” and “the king’s chapel” advises and supports this Jeroboam figure (verses 12-13).
Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry’s free booklet Great Again notes that President Donald Trump “received over 80 percent of the white evangelical vote and a large portion of the Catholic vote” during the 2016 presidential election. Mr. Flurry explains how President Trump is a modern type of King Jeroboam ii, and how the religious movement that supports him represents a modern manifestation of the “sanctuaries of Israel.”
The “Coronavirus Great Awakening” may make the “sanctuaries of Israel” even stronger than they are now. The fact that more Americans are becoming interested in Bible prophecy and God’s plan for mankind is fantastic news. But a religious awakening also means that people need to be especially on guard against false teachers. Anciently, the northern kingdom of Israel fell into ruin after King Jeroboam ii rejected the warning message God gave him through the Prophet Amos. Jeroboam, instead, listened to an evil priest named Amaziah.
The Prophet Isaiah corrected the kingdom of Judah for rejecting God’s message, saying: “[T]his is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the Lord: Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits” (Isaiah 30:9-10).
Some 67 million Americans believe God is using coronavirus to get their attention, yet they are bombarded with a cacophony of contradictory messages about what God wants from America. Mr. Armstrong always said, “Don’t believe me; don’t take my word. Believe God; believe your Bible.” That is the key to differentiating between God’s true warning message and false ministers who “prophesy deceits.”

What is the Mark of the Beast in the Bible?
The truth behind the number.

You’ve probably heard of the “mark of the beast” or the number 666 which many consider to be the devil’s number. Although many people associate 666 with satan, the Book of Revelation explains what the number really means.
Revelation 13:15-18 is the main passage in Scripture that mentions the mark of the beast. The passage says, “And it was allowed to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast might even speak and might cause those who would not worship the image of the beast to be slain. Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is 666.”
In addition to Revelation 13:15-18, other references can be found in Revelation 14:9. 11, 15:2, 16:2 and 20:4. So what exactly is the mark? The mark of the beast acts as a seal for the followers of Antichrist and the false prophet who serves the Antichrist. The false prophet, recognized as the second beast, is the one who causes people to take this mark.
This mark is placed directly on the hand or forehead. It’s not a card that is simply carried around. The recent breakthroughs in medical implant chip and RFID technologies have increased interest in the mark of the beast referenced in chapter 13 of the Book of Revelation. It is important to realize that a medical implant chip isn’t the mark of the beast. The mark of the beast will be something only given to those who worship the Antichrist.
You may be wondering what the meaning of 666 is. Well, this remains a mystery though many have speculated that there is a connection to specific dates. However, we are told in Revelation that the number references a person, not a date. Ultimately, the number identifies the Antichrist.
Jesus warned us that in the last days false prophets would arise who would masquerade as the Messiah and claim to be the Savior of the world. “Jesus answered and said to them: ‘Take heed that no one deceives you.' For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many” (Matthew 24:4-5). This false prophet is the second beast referenced in Revelation. Shortly before His crucifixion, Jesus preached His great message regarding profound events that would occur at the end of the age just prior to His Second Coming. Among those events, He said, would be false prophets and false Christs. Jesus also emphasized that these false christs will perform great signs and miracles and deceive man. Many Christians believe that as long as they believe in Jesus, they are shielded from these false prophets or shielded from the deceptions of the last day, when in fact, these false prophets are not easy to identify. Jesus says that the deceptions of these false christs are so carefully planned and so skillfully carried out, that even God’s chosen ones would be deceived. The only time this isn’t possible is when we keep our focus on the real Jesus.
In order to recognize the false prophet, the Bible tells us to stay on guard and to pay attention to these things. First, pay attention to where the person’s message is coming from. Is the message they are delivering to the people from their head or from God through the power of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ? Peter says, “We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:16). And then he says the false teachers exploit you “with stories they have made up” (2 Peter 3:4). The true teacher sources what He says from the Bible. The false teacher relies on his own creativity. Their message is contrary to the teachings we’ve learned. These figures will promote a way to salvation by works that detracts from God’s glory through the cross of Christ. All false teachers undermine core values and teachings of Jesus Christ.
Another thing to look at is their character. Ask yourself what kind of people does the message produce? Instead of pursuing goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, kindness and love, the false prophet is marked by arrogance and slander. They are also marked by greed. False prophets love to be seen and heard. This is indicated by the fact that they keep putting themselves at the center of attention by continually prophesying day by day. Scripture is very clear that the Holy Spirit is in Earth to draw attention to Jesus. Jesus Himself said to the Holy Spirit in John 16:14. “He will glorify Me, for He will receive from Me and will declare it to you.” Revelation 19:10 says. “Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” Beware of those who use prophecy to thrust themselves in the limelight.
Finally, you can pay attention to their message. Listen to the substance. The message for Christ is always central. “We have everything we need for life and godliness in Him” (2 Peter 1:3). For the false teacher, “They will secretly introduce destructive heresies" (2 Peter 2:1). Pay attention to the word secretly here. Movement away from the centrality of Christ is subtle. The false prophet will speak about how other people can change your life, but if you listen closely to what they’re saying, you will see that Christ is not central to the message. However, something very corruptive likely is at the center of their message. Their messages are not aligned with scripture, but their own warped version of it.
